What is occupancy tax?

The Citizens of St. Charles County adopted Section 137.082 RSMo providing for the assessment and collection of Occupancy Tax during the 1990 General Election. This section states "a building or other structure classified as residential property... newly constructed and occupied... shall be assessed and taxed... as of the first day of the month following the date of occupancy for the proportionate part of the remaining year....".
