A Publication of the St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department - Sept./Oct. 2018

The Park at New Melle Lakes opens Saturday, Sept. 29!

You're Invited to Our New Park Opening!

Another beautiful St. Charles County Park is ready to open near New Melle and the public is invited to celebrate our success by attending a special event at The Park at New Melle Lakes on Saturday, Sept. 29!

The St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department will officially swing open the gates of the 410-acre park, located at 400 Foristell Road, to host a fun celebration. Join us from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. to explore the park's 3.7 miles of paved trails; experience canoe and kayak demonstrations on the 26-acre lake; catch and release fishing with loaner poles and live bait; practice disc golf throwing on the "champion" premier 18-hole course; participate in a family friendly scavenger hunt activity; and enjoy refreshments, giveaways and more! One lucky park guest will take home a gift certificate for a complementary night's stay in one of our popular camping cabins!

Situated on the site of the New Melle Lakes Golf Course, this new park connects to adjacent park property located off of Highway Z, just north of Fiddlecreek Ridge Road and the Boone's Trail Branch of the St. Charles City-County Library. That section of park has a trailhead and one mile of natural-surface trails for hiking and biking.

But we're not finished developing this park. Construction throughout the entire park property is being planned and will take place in phases over the next couple of years. Some of the new developments include a launch area for non-motorized boats on the 26-acre lake, restrooms, reservable large and small shelters, a large multi-acre Off-Leash Dog Area, a playground and renovations to the existing home on site into a rentable facility that is wheelchair accessible.

For more information about the new park and our park celebration, call us at 636-949-7535.
Riverside Landing is open!

Riverside Landing is Open!

Even though it just opened to the public Aug. 18, St. Charles County residents already are finding Riverside Landing in St. Charles a popular place to go! This new riverside park features a FREE boat ramp for water enthusiasts to access the Mississippi River and other "blueway" areas of the river.

Located between Kampville Drive and Huster Road, the 8-acre park will remain open throughout the winter but is scheduled to close early next year to undergo major renovations. The new park enhancements include the installation of several small and large recreational vehicles (RV) campsites, boat slips, day-use picnic areas, a walking trail, a spacious fire pit area, and a play area for children. Restroom facilities, water and electric also will be available on site. It's anticipated that the new enhanced Riverside Landing will reopen to the public in the summer of 2019. Once the renovations are complete, this unique outdoor recreational attraction will be the perfect place to bring the family for an exciting St. Charles County adventure.

It's hayride season in St. Charles County Parks!

Reserve Hayrides in the Park

Autumn officially begins on Sept. 22, and so does our annual hayride season at Broemmelsiek Park near Defiance. From Saturday, Sept. 22 thru Sunday, Nov. 4, groups of 20 guests can reserve a tractor-pulled hay wagon for a 45-minute ride through prairies and tree-lined fields in the park. Then, for an hour after the ride, we'll supply the glowing campfire and you supply your favorite treats to roast. The cost is $125 per wagon. Advanced reservations are required by calling the Parks Department at 636-949-7535. Hayrides may be reserved for 6, 7, and 8 p.m. on Fridays and 5, 6, 7, and 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
If you don’t have a group large enough to book an entire wagon, then consider joining us for our popular Hayride Hoedown on Saturday, Oct. 20. During the event, participants experience a 45-minute scenic wagon ride through the park, along with a light dinner, s'mores, and the foot-stomping, knee-slapping performance of Babaloo, a one-man musical comedy act suitable for all ages. Cost of the event is $10.50 per person. Pre-registration is required by calling the parks department. Choose from a 6, 6:45, or 7:30 p.m. hay wagon departure.
