St. Charles County, Missouri – Gunsmithing, a craft that has been part of American history and culture for centuries, is the July featured Artisan in Residence program at The Historic Daniel Boone Home, 1866 Highway F in Defiance. The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 22.
With over 20 years of experience in the historic gunsmith trade, Gunsmith Bill Loyd is host of the program and will discuss the make and care of firearms, as well as show some of the replica firearms he has created. Those in attendance have an opportunity to ask questions about the process and history of gunsmithing. This free event is appropriate for all ages and registration is not required.
Additionally, visitors to the Artisan in Residence program are in for a special treat – Daniel Boone and his biographer, John Filson, will conduct guided tours of the Historic Daniel Boone Home every hour starting at 9 a.m. Barney Combs and Robert Pecoraro, Kentucky Colonels and Certified Interpretive Guides through the National Association for Interpretation, bring the famous frontiersman and his biographer to life. Guided tours are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for children ages 5-12, and free for active/retired military and children under 4.
Admission to enter the park and self-guided tours of the village grounds are free. The gift shop is open for guests. Food and drink are allowed on the grounds, but not in the buildings.
