ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO – A Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a volunteer-based unit formed to assist in a large-scale disaster or community-wide public health emergency. At an orientation meeting at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 2, the St. Charles County Department of Public Health will recognize Faye Otto as its MRC Member of the Year and welcome new members to the group.
“Faye’s positive attitude makes her a vital contributor to our program,” St. Charles County Public Health Emergency Planner Nick Kohlberg notes. “She is dedicated to our team, eager to learn, and an active participant in our trainings and operations. Faye is the ideal candidate to recognize as our 2017 St. Charles County MRC Member of the Year and sets a high standard for all future recipients.”
The orientation meeting will introduce new and prospective members to the MRC program, cover various roles in St. Charles County’s Emergency Response Plan and outline training. The orientation will take place at the Department of Public Health office, located at 1650 Boones Lick Road in St. Charles. If you are 18 or older and interested in joining the program, please call Public Health Emergency Planner Nick Kohlberg at 636-949-7554 or visit for more information.
Medically trained and non-medical professionals alike can put their knowledge and skills to use in helping the community as a MRC volunteer. In an emergency response, these volunteers may be called upon to perform roles such as:

  • Dispensing medication
  • Illness investigation
  • Logistics and transportation
  • Public information and social media communication
  • Mental health and spiritual support
  • Pet Sheltering

Through the efforts of its three divisions — Environmental Health and Protection, Health Services and Humane Services — the St. Charles County Department of Public Health provides a wide range of services that enhance the well-being of the community. To learn how the department assists this region or to find out about volunteer opportunities with any of the divisions, visit or call 636-949-7400.
