St. Charles County, Missouri- The Office of Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar announces that on December 22, 2015, Kathleen Peacock, 22, of St. Charles and Lucas R. Barnes, 25, of St. Charles was charged with abuse or neglect of a child-resulting in death and manufacture of a controlled substance. Both charges are class A felonies punishable up to thirty years in the Department of Corrections.
Charges arouse on December 18, 2015 when Peacock and Barnes placed their two year old son in a crib and turned a space heater on with no thermostat or automatic shut off and neglected to check on him for over thirty-eight hours. The child was found dead on Sunday, December 20, 2015. The cause of death was hyperthermia due to extreme heat. The defendants admitted to using methamphetamine and manufacturing the drug in the home.
“The tragedy for this little boy is that he was victimized by the selfish indulgences of the two people who were put in this world to protect him the most.”
The defendants are being held in the St. Charles County jail on $100,000 cash only bond.
