[ARCHIVED] Involuntary Manslaughter charges filed for Reckless Driving

The Office of Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar announces that on March 30, 2022, Daniel Glennon Loeffler, 35, of St. Peters and Joseph Faupel, 63, of Troy have been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter 1st Degree and Assault 2nd Degree.

These charges arose the afternoon of Tuesday, March 29 when Loeffler and Faupel were identified as driving very reckless northbound on Highway 61.  It appeared based upon multiple witness statements that both Loeffler and Faupel were engaged in a road rage incident. At one point, as Faupel used the turning lane to Route W to pass Loeffler’s car on the far right where the lane ended and the shoulder began, Loeffler sped up refusing to allow Faupel’s car to pass, and Faupel veered hard to the left, striking Loeffler’s car.  The impact to Loeffler’s car caused him to veer to the left, leaving his lane of traffic and he then struck a Honda CRV, which was traveling at a normal rate of speed in the far left lane.  The impact of the collision between Loeffler’s car and the Honda CRV caused the CRV to travel off the right side of the road and overturn.  The Honda CRV struck a telephone box and flipped several times killing the passenger. Based upon numerous witness statements, it appeared that both Loeffler and Faupel were at fault for creating the hazardous situation, which ultimately led to the loss of life of the victim passenger.

Loeffler and Faupel are in custody in the St. Charles County Department of Correction with a bond of $50,000.00 cash only no 10%.
