Total Eclipse in the Park Celebrations

Monday, August 21, 2017

Be a part of the most memorable event of 2017! The Parks Department and the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri (ASEM) are preparing for the once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse event that will be visible throughout St. Charles County on Monday, August 21, 2017!
As a result, we are planning three Total Eclipse in the Park celebrations at the following parks: Klondike Park in Augusta, Broemmelsiek Park in Defiance, and Quail Ridge Park in Wentzville. These exciting events will be limited to 1,000 guests per park and each guest will receive a pair of commemorative eclipse glasses for safe viewing.
Out of 2 min. 40 secs., Klondike Park will have the longest duration of total darkness with 2 min. 14 secs. after the moon passes directly in front of the sun. Broemmelsiek Park will have 1 min. 35 secs. of totality and Quail Ridge Park will have 1 min. 1 sec. total darkness.
Space is limited to our events and guests must be pre-registered to enter the park. To register, visit and choose "Total Eclipse in the Park - Broemmelsiek Park," "Total Eclipse in the Park - Klondike Park" or "Total Eclipse in the Park - Quail Ridge Park." You may also register by calling our administrative office at 636-949-7535.
The Parks Department is currently looking for volunteers, and event sponsors. For more information, call Nancy Gomer at 636-949-7900 ext. 7646.
Are you in the path of the total solar eclipse? To find out, visit and zoom in on the map to see if your home, business, or school will be able to experience totality or total darkness when the moon is directly in front of the sun.
