Welcome Warmer Weather at a County Park

Posted on May 2, 2023 at 9:14 AM by Bryanna Hartmann

As we move into the warmer months of spring and early summer, it’s a good time to remember how fortunate we are to have 18 St. Charles County Parks where we can go to enjoy the great outdoors!

Throughout our County, there are numerous amenities and features available at our County Parks. Just last year in District 1, Oglesby Park opened near Foristell and already is the recipient of three awards. It features a multi-acre lake, trails, and boasts a large net climber on the playground that is one of only two in the world!

Also in District 1, is Indian Camp Creek Park. It has one of the best play areas in our park system. It includes a specially built play creek that passes between a variety of interesting climbing and playing areas, all of which is adjacent to a scenic lake. If you haven’t taken the time to visit this park and see everything it has to offer, I promise you it’s well worth the trip.

For people looking to get a little more adventurous in the outdoors, one of the parks allows you to put a kayak or canoe on the water and take a trip downstream. The Dardenne Creek Blueway, a water trail that just opened last year connects St. Charles County’s Riverside Landing Park on the Mississippi River to St. Peters’ 370 Lakeside Park. Riverside Landing also offers campsites with electrical hookups and a dump station for RV sanitary lines. Plans include expanding new sections of the Dardenne Creek Blueway in phases, including a 5-mile connection to St. Peters’ Lone Wolff Park set to be opened this spring.

If you drive north on Route Y to the Cuivre River, you’ll find Flatwoods Park where you can put a canoe or kayak on the river and see where the water takes you. The Parks Department is in the planning stage of partnering with the City of Wentzville to establish another blueway connecting this park and Cuivre River to Big Creek and Indian Camp Creek.

No matter which park you choose to visit, I hope you’ll take advantage of all the recreational opportunities you’ll find there. A list of all St. Charles County Parks is at stccparks.org.

I hope to see you in a County park!
