Baby Animal
If you happen to encounter a baby animal that is injured, is in immediate danger, or if you know its mother has died, please contact the Wildlife Rescue Center at 636-394-1880 or the Bi-State Hotline at 1-855-WILD-HELP.
These agencies seek to rehabilitate injured, sick or orphaned native wildlife in the effort to return these animals to their natural habitat. Please do not give the animal food or water and do not pick up the animal.
Birds
If you discover an injured bird, there are two options:
- If you encounter a sick or injured bird of prey (hawk, eagle, falcon, owl, etc.) or large birds like herons, pelicans, and swans, please contact the World Bird Sanctuary at 636-861-1392.
- If you encounter a sick or injured songbird (bluebird, cardinal, robin, etc.), please contact Wild Bird Rehabilitation at 314-426-6400.
It is against federal and state statutes to harm or possess a migratory bird, its eggs, or its nest.
